What is Collagen?

Collagen comes in a few shapes and sizes, but none are easier to consume than collagen powder!

Collagen is an important protein in the body, contributing to many areas of overall health. The body produces collagen naturally, but it is common for collagen production to fall over time. A collagen deficiency can lead to or worsen several problems, something that a supplement sets out to fix.

If you’re interested in collagen supplements, just know that you can also easily obtain collagen through the foods that you eat every single day. Collagen is found in the connective tissues of animals, so they can be found in a lot of different kinds of meat, such as chicken, beef, pork, and even fish.

While you can get your daily collagen intake from the foods that you eat every day, it is a lot easier and more efficient to get your daily collagen intake from collagen supplements.

Use in the Body

Collagen is the body’s most abundant protein. It exists in many types, but most of the body’s collagen is Type I, II, III, or IV. Collagen is a building block for bones, skin, hair, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. That’s a pretty big role.

It also plays an important role in building and supporting lots of tissues in your body. From your bones, cartilage, skin, hair, eyes, and even the digestive system, collagen helps to support all of these major areas of your body to keep them healthy long term.

Benefits of a Collagen Supplement

The body’s production of collagen decreases over time. This can lead to skin, joint, and bone problems. The severity of these problems changes over time, ranging from mild inconveniences to more serious issues.

The benefits of taking a supplement come from their ability to counteract these problems. By maintaining high collagen levels, you can keep your muscles, skin, and joints healthier. Collagen supplements can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in your skin, which in return help your skin elasticity long term. It can also hydrate your skin and overall improve its appearance long term to keep you looking youthful.

Taking collagen supplements can also help to prevent bone loss, boost your muscle mass, promote heart health, improve gut and brain health, and even promote weight loss with a faster metabolism.

Collagen supplements are an excellent way to increase your collagen intake. They provide a consistent boost to your body’s collagen levels, leading to many benefits. They come in both capsule and powder form, but we will be using our multi collagen peptides plus powder for this recipe!

Side Effects

There are some side effects that might occur if you start to take collagen supplements, but don’t worry because most of them are not major! Some of these side effects include a rash, feelings of fullness, a bad taste in the mouth, and even redness of the skin.

In some serious cases, you can be allergic to collagen powder, or it can give you kidney stones, raise calcium levels, and can sometimes cause depression, or even worsen it.

Collagen Powder

Collagen powder is an excellent way to get your daily dose of this supplement. Collagen powder is super easy to ingest and can be mixed in with protein shakes, coffee, and so much more. Sometimes it’s easy to forget taking a collagen supplement everyday, so instead opting for a collagen powder can make your life so much easier.

If you’re someone that drinks protein shakes, or coffee every day, adding a scoop of collagen powder can provide all of the benefits that you want to get. Using it in your coffee can help you to not forget to take it, which is an added bonus too!

Our formula dissolves easily in most liquids and has next to no taste, making it perfect for coffee and smoothies.

Here are the ingredients you will need to make our delicious collagen iced coffee:

  • Coffee! For this, the amount of coffee depends on the type you are using. In general, it will be 4-6 ounces of cold brew, 2-3 shots of espresso, or 2 teaspoons of espresso powder dissolved in 4 ounces of water.
  • Four ounces of milk (whichever type you like the best)
  • Vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon
  • A blender or shaker cup
  • 1 scoop of Dr. Emil Nutrition’s Multi Collagen Peptides Plus
  • 1 cup of ice

How to Put it all Together

  1. Add ingredients to your blender or shaker cup.
  2. Blend until the consistency is smooth
  3. Pour into your favorite glass, and enjoy! If you are using a shaker cup, pour over the cup of ice.

Note, we strongly suggest using a blender for this. The overall consistency will be much better than with a shaker cup. If you are using a shaker cup, do not add the cup of ice at this time.

Try a Chocolatey Twist

Mocha iced coffee? Sounds like a delcicious way to start your morning! If you want to make your morning caffeine a little more indulgent, try adding Dr. Emil's Cocoa Collagen for a chocolatey boost. The collagen hot cocoa has peptides that support hair, skin, nails, and joints, hyaluronic acid, and even marshmallows.

What Coffee Should I Use?

There are many methods to make coffee. From cold brew to espresso, it can be hard to decide which to use. Depending on your taste, you may enjoy a strong espresso base or a lighter, smoother taste that is more on the cold brew side.

That being said, it is important to note the difference between cold brew and cold coffee. Using your leftover coffee from the morning will work, but that generally turns out bitter and far from the quality of the cold brew. Making cold brew coffee is a longer process where you mix coffee grounds and cold water and refrigerate it for eight to twelve hours.

This leaves your coffee tasting smooth and sweeter than traditional drip coffee and makes it the perfect brew for our iced coffee recipe. Alongside its great taste, making cold brew coffee is very easy. You can follow these steps to make awesome cold brew coffee!

  1. Grind or measure out 1 cup of coffee grounds
  2. Mix coffee grounds with 4 cups of water
  3. Store the coffee mixture overnight
  4. Line a strainer with cheesecloth or sackcloth to strain out the grounds
  5. Use our collagen iced coffee recipe to enjoy a refreshing drink this summer!
